How it works:
1. You bring your pet in their enclosure, along with all food, bedding and anything else they may need during their stay.
2. We'll take care of them, ensure they are fed, have water, cage cleaning when necessary and will give them love and attention while their family is away.
What animals will we accept?
Most any small animal, bird or reptile. Rabbits, guinea pigs, hedgehogs, ferrets, chinchillas, cockatiels, budgies, large & small parrots, bearded dragons, iguanas, geckos, tortoises and snakes just to name a few. ((We will not accept cats or dogs))
How much do we charge?
$2 per day, per enclosure.
Who are the caregivers?
I'm a stay-at-home wife and mother to a 6 year old, homeschooled daughter. Animals will be cared for in our 3300 sq ft home, along with our animals; 1 cocker spaniel, 1 teacup yorkie, 2 cats, 2 tortoises, 1 sugar glider, 1 cockatiel, 1 bearded dragon and 5 ducks.
Before having our daughter, my wife & I operated a small animal, bird & reptile rescue, taking in animals from across Canada and adopting them into approved homes. We also volunteered for numerous zoos in Saskatchewan and Alberta. We have cared for hundreds of exotics, birds and reptiles, both large and small and are confident your pets will be comfortable and happy while in our home.
Our oldest cat and dog spent their early years with monkeys, ferrets, rabbits, sugar gliders, hedgehogs, mini pigs, lizards, snakes and parrots, to name a few. And since our daughters birth, she has had a variety of experiences with exotic animals, plus a daily relationship with the current animals in our family.
Why do we do it?
Finding quality care for dogs and cats is easy but if you are the owner of a pet outside of the so-called “average”, you know just how hard it is to find someone to give your critter love while you’re away.
Grandma may watch that fuzzy bunny but there’s no way she’s getting near that rat. "Rats don’t belong in peoples homes and they are NOT pets!" says Grandma. The neighbor may agree to toss lettuce into your dragons lid but any more than that for two weeks, it’s definitely not happening. This ones afraid of birds and that one’s afraid of snakes. Not everyone shares the love of an out-of-the-ordinary animal......until now.
There are two main reasons why The Urban Farmhouse offers Small Animal, Bird and Reptile Pet Sitting. The first is we love animals. Just step into our home and meet our very own out-of-the-ordinary family. Secondly, we personally know how hard it is to find someone we trust to care for our unique babies and someone who will offer them just as much love as they get at home.
