Introducing Ellis Mechanical

I’m excited to introduce the next TUF Local interview. This dynamic husband & wife duo had an extremely important part in the building of The Urban Farmhouse and we couldn’t be happier with everything they have done for us. Because of them, we have peace of mind that the job got done right and that if we ever need their services in the future, they’ll be here ASAP. So without hesitation, I’d like to introduce you to Casey & Alison from Ellis Mechanical Services. Let’s see just what they had to say.....

Casey & Alison Ellis

What drives you to do what you do? What motivates you? The people! The people who support and trust our team to help them with their mechanical needs. The companies and other trades who we get to learn from and work alongside every day. And our team – they always show up and always work hard!

What has surprised you most when owning your own business?

All of it! There is so many moving aspects to running a business that you have to learn to multitask, delegate, and lean on your team as much as you can!

What was it like when you first started?

Overwhelming! It was difficult to know were to start and juggle all of the balls in the air. We quickly learnt that building relationships that not only helped support our growing business but helped us learn from other local entrepreneurs was extremely important.

What is something people don’t know about your business?

We are a small but mighty team! Although we all have specific areas that we work in, the cross over in training is of utmost importance to us.

What would your customers say they love most about doing business with you?

Our service. We do our best to streamline all services so that our clients receive the same level every time they contact us. As well, I think clients enjoy that the owners are front line team members and are often the first people you speak to when contacting us.

How do you motivate and encourage yourself?

Communication is key. We have a bi-weekly team wrap up in which we discuss the jobs we’ve been working on, the upcoming jobs, safety, lessons learned and of course there is always some funny stories to share. We believe that time as a team is important to remind us all

that we’re in this together.

Where do you see your business in the next years?

We’ve spent the last 5 years focusing on the residential portion of our company and are currently working on expanding more into the commercial aspect of it.

What are your greatest challenges?

This is an ever changing industry. We are always challenged to ensure we stay competitive in the market, stay up-to-date on plumbing and gas code regulation changes and keep our safety and industry training top notch.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

We are a husband and wife owned company born and raised in Saskatchewan.

What do you love most about your town/city?

Easy. The people! There is no city that supports local quite like Saskatoon.

Why do you think it is important for people to support local?

Supporting local not only has immediate benefits but has many long term benefits for our community. These are the companies and people that will be here in the years to come.

What are your favorite restaurants?

There are so many to choose from! A standard for us is Ayden Kitchen & Bar for supper and then we most often head to the Scarlet in the Sheraton hotel for their beignets and a nightcap.

What are your favorite things to do locally?

We are super Saskatchewan Rush fans – we never miss a game when they are in town or on TV for away games. We’ve even traveled to watch a few away games! We consider the Rush season our winter holiday.
