Introducing Rachael's Rovers
What started out as a part-time gig in order to pay off student loans, became a full-blown business for Rachael Mensch of Rachael’s Rovers. This accidental business has connected this animal lover with many of the cities adorable pups and their families. Not only does she offer professional dog walking; this booming business also extends to house sitting and caring for other pets in the home. Let’s learn more about Rachael and what she has to offer.....
Describe your business: Rachael's Rovers is a professional personalized pet Care business born and grown in Saskatoon, SK. We specialize in Dog Walking and House Sitting. Our services are insured and include photo and video updates, GPS tracked maps of walks, and personalized
updates so you can hear all about our time with your pet. In the last two years, we've had the pleasure of Caring for over 150 pet clients in Saskatoon - our dog clients range from 8 week old puppies to 16 year old dogs. We've met energetic healthy pups, but also dogs who are injured, suffer from epilepsy, or need daily / hourly medications. Our Care has also extended to cats, guinea pigs, birds, and fish. This broad spectrum of clients has made us confident as well as knowledgeable. We provide guaranteed Care that is above expectation; providing your pet the same love and Care you would is what we are known for. We look after every pet as if they were our own; ensuring your time apart is happy, safe, and stress free.
What drives you to do what you do? What motivates you? We understand how hard it is to find someone you can trust with your Pet, so it is our hope that our services can give all pet owners in Saskatoon confidence and comfort. Myself and my team are gentle, loving, kind but
most importantly reliable and trustworthy. We look after every dog as if they were our own and find so much joy in every visit.
What was it like when you first started? In November 2017 I began dog walking professionally
part time. In November 2018 I decided to take the next step and start my own business! Within two months' time I was receiving so many Care requests I began to look for fellow pet lovers like myself who were passionate about helping people and pets. In the past two years, Rachael's Rovers has grown from myself to a team of seven Care Partners that I am so proud and grateful for.
What is something people don’t know about your business? Rachael's Rovers was not planned! I was providing pet Care as a way to pay off student loans; Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine a part-time hustle would grow into a full-blown business. I am forever thankful for
help and support of those close to me who believed and encouraged me to keep taking the steps needed to make Rachael's Rovers grow to what it is today.
What would your customers say they love most about doing business with you? We are most known for our reliable, professional Care that leaves clients feeling confident and at ease. People
are always very impressed by how smooth and easy the House Sitting Care is completed - one of my favourite compliments we've received is the client came home to a house so spotless they couldn't even tell someone had stayed there for the week.
Where do you see your business in the next years? I would like to see Rachael's Rovers continue to expand in our client base so we are able to continue being able to provide people with work they are passionate about. Supporting people in the community of Saskatoon not only through Caring for their pets but by providing local job opportunities.
What are your greatest challenges? Currently, the COVID-19 pandemic has faced us with
many challenges just as it has for all small businesses. Our services are often needed due to people going on vacations or going to work - because traveling is discouraged and working from -home is what most people are doing currently we have been greatly impacted. We are thankful for our trusting and amazing clients who have continued booking us through this time and look forward to resuming Care once life returns to the "new normal".
What do you love most about your town/city? Saskatoon is a hidden gem - all that take the opportunity to visit never leave without experiencing the love and warmth the city emanates. Saskatoon is a city of dreamers, believers, doers, and thinkers; We care deeply about our city and the people in it which is something I believe to be very special. What I most love specifically in Saskatoon is evening dog Walks along the river. So beautiful watching the sunset from one of the bridges.
Why do you think it is important for people to support local? Life has become too easy in that we can have anything we need or want at the few clicks of a mouse or taps of fingers. Online shopping that supports big conglomerates makes it that much more difficult for small businesses to succeed and thrive. It is a beautiful and scary thing to believe in yourself enough to pursue and create a business, and it's true when you support small business you are directly impacting someone's life in a positive way. Local business is what makes a city or town unique - imagine if everywhere you went you had the same restaurants, bars, shops, and services- it would be like consumerism began using a dress code! Local business creates local expression; it's beautiful, special, and should be celebrated and prioritized.
What are your favorite restaurants? Rachael's Rovers loves and frequents GUD, D'lish by
Tish, Odd Couple, Seasoned Fusion, and the Underground Cafe.
