Introducing Wine 4 You!

When Crystal and I moved back to Saskatoon in 2011 I decided to start making my own wine. I was on the hunt for a supplier and came across Shirley and Wine 4 You. From the very first visit to the store I knew this was a great company that cared about it's customers. Shirley ensured I understood everything and because of it I love making wine. Fast forward 8 years and I have made 13 batches of wine which is approx 390 bottles. I love giving them as gifts to my friends and real estate clients! So no I did not drink all 390 bottles myself! LOL. If you are interested in making your own wine read the blog below and then go visit Wine 4 You. They will take great care of you.

Describe your business: Wine 4 You is all about great wine and a great experience. With our assistance and advice, customers choose a wine kit to suit their tastes and budget, and perform a few easy steps to start the process. We keep a close eye on your wine, moving it through the winemaking process, and we call you in a few weeks to make a bottling appointment. At-home winemakers are also welcomed to purchase wine kits and supplies and enjoy winemaking in their own home.

What drives you to do what you do? What motivates you? I love for people to be happy, and for customers to have a wine they love and that they are proud to share with family and friends. I enjoy the science and the details and the organization of the winemaking process.

What has surprised you most when owning your own business? I have been pleasantly surprised with how supportive people are towards the success of the business. And the paperwork never ends!

What was it like when you first started? It was a tremendous learning curve. Ten years ago this was a new industry in Saskatchewan so we had to teach people that our service even existed and what it was all about.

What is something people don’t know about your business? How easy the whole process is for customers! People are still surprised with how little work is involved for them, and how much fun the whole experience can be.

What would your customers say they love most about doing business with you? People always tell us that Wine 4 You is their 'happy place'. We keep things fun and casual, and we don't use big intimidating wine words. But we do know lots about wine and we use that knowledge to help you choose the wine that is best for you.

How do you motivate and encourage yourself? We are a small group who work closely every day. We hire people with similar values, we set sales and production targets, and of course wine.

Where do you see your business in the next years? Continuing to provide superb service and a fun winemaking experience, and making even more great wine.

What are your greatest challenges? We spend a lot of time keeping up on the names, styles, and

characteristics of the 100's of wines we carry, as well as figuring out how to easily describe these wines.

What is something most people don’t know about you? I have a civil engineering degree from the U of S.

What do you love most about your town/city? I love the river. It is beautiful in all seasons.

Why do you think it is important for people to support local? Local businesses are local people who are supporting their families. I think it is important to support both large and small businesses that give back to the communities they do business in and live in.

What are your favorite restaurants? We don't eat out a lot, but anywhere with an outdoor patio is on my list. Somewhere Else is a great pub for appetizers and live music. The best Sunday brunch is in our own kitchen.

What are your favorite things to do locally? Walking in our neighbourhood or along the Meewasin Trail. My leisure pass is used a lot in the winter, with walking tracks and swimming and

classes. There are also so many great Festivals and gatherings and craft/art shows to enjoy.
